Being a student-athlete at MacMurray is amazing! I play both golf and basketball, and my teammates have become my family away from home. The last four years have been a blast. From having class with all of my friends to spending two hours at practice with them to hanging out after, we truly are a family here. Playing sports has also brought me a lot of joy. They’ve made college more fun, they’ve kept me active, they’ve helped keep me from bingeing Netflix in my dorm for hours on end and, most importantly, they’ve helped me meet some of my best friends.

Since my first year at Mac, I’ve learned a lot. I was a quiet kid, very shy and I didn’t get out much. My classes and my friends have helped encourage me to get out of my comfort zone. I have since become a very outgoing person, I talk A LOT and I have taken on various important rolls on campus. One such roll has been as a Student Ambassador in the Office of Admissions, and in this roll I’ve been able to practice and build on my people skills which I didn’t have before coming to Mac. College has taught me a lot about myself and has helped me build and enhance a lot of important traits for my professional life after college.

My advice for new students is DON’T BE SCARED TO TRY NEW THINGS. That’s one of the best parts about Mac! You can really open up and be who you are. College is a great time, stressful, but great! Definitely find the right group of friends who will have your back at all times, but at Mac it isn’t hard to find great friends since everyone is as close as family.
