What I Love About My MacFam

My name is Judah Renfro and I’m going to tell you a little bit about MacMurray College. Here at MacMurray (or “Mac” for short) we put a huge emphasis on our “MacFam.” MacFam is a term that students, faculty and staff use around campus to show how important our relationships are with one another. From the athletics department to the students across campus to the faculty in every major and even all the way up to the President of the College, everyone has everyone’s back and supports each other in any situation.

This year, I experienced the support of my MacFam firsthand. In February, my nephew, who had been fighting a long battle since he was born, passed away, and during that time so many people around campus stepped up to support me and show that they cared. As a basketball player I had the support of my teammates and coaches, but the other coaches, other athletes and the athletic director all showed me that they had my back, too. I received tons of different text messages, Instagram direct messages, Facebook personal messages and emails from people, and it wasn’t just those in athletics who reached out, but I also received numerous emails from professors on campus, even those I’ve never had a class with. I also work as a Student Ambassador in the Office of Admissions as well, and everyone on the admissions team was very supportive and gave me a card to let me know that they were thinking about us and praying for my family and me.

MacMurray College isn’t just an institution where you go to get your education and write some papers, take a few tests, maybe play a sport or two, and then graduate; when you come to MacMurray you join a family, and that is my favorite thing about this college — everyone genuinely cares for each other because we are #MacFam.
